| The National Graduate School of Psychology aims at bringing together the leading Finnish researchers of psychology to form a pool of supervisors for training top experts in the field of psychology. In addition, the Graduate School aims at providing a broad general scientific education. The educational environment comprises of research groups with international profiles and international research contacts. |

1) Improving the quality and level
The Graduate School of Psychology has managed to construct a framework for a high quality post-graduate education. Dissertations consist of approximately 3-5 articles which have been published or accepted to be published in high standard scientific journals. |

2) Lower disputation age and intensified education
In recent years, the mean disputation age has shifted downwards, towards 30 years. However, the average age will probably still stay at around 32-33 years. Since the majority of post graduates are women, maternity leaves prolong the time of the average study period. |

3) Increasing collaboration between universities, research institutes and graduate schools
The Graduate School of Psychology comprises the departments of psychology in Finnish Universities and their research and teaching clinics as well as other research institutes in the field of psychology. The Psykonet network has had a profound concentrative effect on collaboration within and between the fields of research and education. |

4) Support for women with careers in research
Nearly three out of four postgraduates at the Graduate School of Psychology are women. The Graduate School promotes awareness of the practical dilemmas related to research, maternity leaves and parenting, and supports the parenting efforts of post graduates by making practical arrangements and fostering a flexible policy. |
