Affiliate positions

 
Postgraduate students working on their dissertations may write an application to the Steering Group of the National Doctoral Programme of Psychology for an affiliate postgraduate position.
 
Applicants should have the possibility to engage in postgraduate studies full-time.
 
The application procedure for an affiliate position does not differ from the regular application procedure.
An applicant must have good prospects and fulfill the same requirements as postgraduates chosen for the postgraduate positions funded by the Ministry of Education. 
 
Why belong to the graduate school?
 

- no tuition fee is charged
- you will get credits (ECTS) from the courses and symposiums
- most of the travel expenses for courses are compensated
- you may apply grants for congress travels
- there is a possibility to meet other postgraduate students 
- there is a possibility to gain supervision

 
A student in an affiliate position has the same rights as other students regarding course participation and other activities arranged by the Doctoral Programme - see page Rights & Responsibilities
 
How to apply?
 
The application process is continuous. The following documents are required for application:
 
1) Supervisors
Postgraduate students must name at least two supervisors who meet the requirements of international research. Both supervisors must have a PhD and at least one must be docent.

2) Higher Degree
Certification of a master's degree.
 
3) An account of the right to postgraduate studies
Postgraduates must have the right to carry out postgraduate studies with an aim of completing a doctoral degree at a university belonging to the network of Psykonet (University of Helsinki, Joensuu, Jyväskylä, Tampere, Turku or Åbo Akademi)
 

4) Research plan

A research plan (of max. three pages) for the doctoral thesis and its schedule approved by the supervisors must be submitted.
 

5) Curriculum Vitae (CV)

The CV must include an account of prior studies during at least two years preceding application. In addition, records of previous studies, scientific and other activities related to research should be included. In case the applicant's publications and research experience are limited, an account of the Master's thesis must be attached (maximum length three pages).
 

6) Details of financial arrangements for postgraduate studies and an account of formerly and currently held academic posts

Funding should be arranged at least for 1 year.
 

Moreover, the primary supervisor must give a statement regarding the applicant and submit it directly to the Coordinator of the Doctoral Programme.

 
The application must be sent in written form to  the Coordinator Hanna-Leena Tikkanen. If necessary, the Coordinator will provide further information.
